Ballintotis Community Council Lake Project wins Top Award


Ballintotis Community Council has won the Most Creative Project award at this years Muintir na Tíre PRIDE IN OUR COMMUNITY awards which were held in Oriel House Hotel, Ballincollig on Thursday last 23rd October, 2008.

Deputy County Mayor, Cllr. Derry Canty presented the award to Jean O'Gorman, Chairperson of Ballintotis Community Council. The project consisted of the up-grading of the angling facilities at Lough Aderra Lake which is on the N25 just outside Midleton. This included extending, resurfacing and fencing of the car parking area, the erection of a height restriction barrier, the planting of trees and the clearing of shrubs at the lakeside.

Jean O'Gorman said, "This project took 12 weeks of hard work by a dedicated sub-committee who were on hand eight hours a day". Josie Knowles, PRO of Ballintotis Community Council said, "This project has created a harmonious atmosphere for locals, tourists and wildlife at the lake and has been completed to a very high standard". Josie also paid tribute to Cork County Council, The South Western Regional Fisheries Board and SECAD (South East Cork Area Development) for their support for the project.

The Deputy County Mayor praised Cork County Federation Muintir na Tíre for organising the competition which this year had seen a record number of entries. Seamus Forde, Chairman of Cork County Federation Muintir na Tíre thanked Cork County Council for their support for the competition and urged other communities to get involved in this exciting competition.

Delegates from over thirty communities from as far apart as Ahakista and Youghal attended the awards ceremony an saw an audio visual display of all the projects.
