Ballintotis Community Council

The Ballintotis Community Council was formed in 2003 to

  • acknowledge all the positive work being done in the area by voluntary organisations and individuals.
  • address and support local initiatives of a social, cultural, environmental, sporting and infrastructural nature.
  • establish a forum that enables our community to move forward together in a structured manner so that we can have influence in decisions relating to our area and the life we live together.

The Council is made up of members elected from seven districts. Click on the 'Past Councils' link in the right panel to see the members elected to the first council.

In October 2006, following completion of the first Council's third year in office, fresh elections were held to elect a new Council (as per the rules of the Constitution). Previously, there were two representatives from each of the seven districts but the outgoing council, aware of the increased level of activity on hands, amended the rules to allow for three representatives from each area to be elected.

The Council also has the power to co-opt five extra people, who it is felt, would be of assistance to the Council in the pursuit of its objectives.

The new Council has some very exciting plans and projects in mind for the benefit of the total area of Ballintotis and, perhaps chief among these, is the provision of our own Community Centre Building adjacent to our beautifully sited Church and in close proximity to our renowned Primary School.

The road ahead will provide many challenges and difficulties but with a dedicated and talented Council, backed up by a supportive and enthusiastic community, all obstacles can be overcome. Through the medium of this, our new website, and regular newsletter, the community will be kept well informed of progress and events as they occur.

Annual Council Events:

Family Mass: This is held on the Feast of the Holy Family which is the first Sunday after Christmas.

Lap of the Lake: This is held on the27th December.

Clean up around the lake is held in late April.

Community Alert Dinner is held in December.

Click on the 'Area Map' link on the right panel to see the Community Council area and the various districts within it that the members have been elected to represent.

The Officers and sub-committes of the current council are also outlined.
