A five goal blitz by Ballintotas NS saw them banish the disappointment of last season’s hurling set back and in the process win the Roinn F8 Final of this year’s Sciath Na Scol Football competition.

Played on a bright but cold morning at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, heavy under foot conditions made this game a test of stamina and therefore the accumulation of an early lead was a real plus for the fiercely committed Ballintotas side.

After an even start to the game, the winners found their goal scoring touch mid way through the opening half when Darren Cusack finished in style twice within ninety seconds to give the East Cork side a firm footing in this eagerly awaited final.

Declan Kelly added further green flag before half time to leave Ballintotas  in cruise control (3-3 to 0-2) with wind advantage to follow in the second half.

At that stage the contest was only theirs to lose and there was never any doubt that the complexion of the game would take a drastic change, especially after Declan Kelly and the excellent Leah McEvoy added further goals soon after the resumption.

Despite the admirable battling qualities of Dripsey, Ballintotas who had team captain Christian Daly and Seadnaidh Smyth going through a huge amount of work closed out the game to clinch a famous win with plenty of breathing space.

The final whistle triggered great scenes of delight for all involved with School Principal Marjorie Barry leading the celebrations.  Splendidly coached all through by Jerry Smyth, the Ballintotas NS class of 2009 got their just reward after almost three months of dedicated training.  More than anything this final win was a superb team effort with all members of the panel contributing to the ultimate triumph.
